Namibian culture — German colonial heritage + indigenous + South African influences. Desert kingdom, Himba people, Etosha.

Language

English official (only 3% native speakers). Oshiwambo (50% native — Owambo). Khoekhoegowab, Afrikaans, German still spoken (colonial heritage). Indigenous languages preserved.

Indigenous Peoples

Himba — semi-nomadic herders in Kunene, women cover skin in red ochre + butter. San (Bushmen) — oldest culture in Africa, hunter-gatherers. Owambo (50% of population).

Sossusvlei and Desert

Namib Desert — oldest in world (55 million years). Sossusvlei red dunes — highest in world (Dune 7 = 388m). Skeleton Coast — shipwrecks. NASA tests Mars rovers here.

Etosha

One of Africa great parks. Salt pan visible from space. Lions, elephants, black rhinos, giraffes. Smaller than Serengeti but easier to see wildlife (waterholes attract animals).

Cuisine

Game meat (kudu, oryx, springbok). Biltong (cured meat) — Afrikaans heritage. Bratwurst, sauerkraut (German heritage). Windhoek Lager beer — German purity law. Kapana (street BBQ).

Music

Damara punch — traditional dance. Sunny Boy — kwaito artist. Music mix indigenous + Afrikaans + South African + German influences.

Modern Namibia

Independence 1990 — youngest African country. Namibia first carbon-negative country in Africa. Tourism — Etosha, Sossusvlei, Swakopmund (German colonial town). Botswana-Namibia transfrontier parks.
